Die Tatsache, da\u00df er ohne Vorkenntnisse, als Autodidakt mit dem Drechseln begann war der Grund f\u00fcr seinen freie Herangehensweise an diesen Beruf. Vom ersten Tag an, begann er selbst\u00e4ndig, sich immer wieder mit dem gleichen Thema auseinanderzusetzen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-column\">\n<p>Auch heute wird immer und immer wieder \u00c4hnliches wiederholt, \u00fcber Details immer und immer wieder improvisiert,&nbsp;&nbsp;immer und immer wieder Strukturen und Profile aneinandergereiht, um schlie\u00dflich ein v\u00f6llig neues, noch nie gesehenes Ganzes entstehen zu lassen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>W\u00e4hrend er fr\u00fcher auch nach kostbaren und exotischen H\u00f6lzern Ausschau hielt, bevorzugt er heute europ\u00e4isches Holz wie Ahorn, Rotbuche, italienische Olive und vorwiegend Eiche. In den ersten Jahren seines Schaffens drehte er aus frischem Holz \u201eRohformen\u201c, die lange trocknen mu\u00dften, um dann weiterverarbeitet werden zu k\u00f6nnen, heutzutage jedoch verwendet er ausschliesslich nasses Holz f\u00fcr seine Objekte.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-column\">\n<p>Die fr\u00fchen Arbeiten \u00fcberzeugten durch handwerkliche Pr\u00e4zision und klare Gestaltung, die neueren Gef\u00e4\u00dfe durch minimalistische , archaische Formen und Oberfl\u00e4chen, die das Material kraftvoll zur Geltung bringen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-column\">\n<p>Die Skulpturen von Ernst Gamperl sind nicht einfach nur gedreht, sie sind das Ergebnis einer langen, geduldigen und intensiven Auseinandersetzung mit dem Werkstoff Holz, In den letzten 20 Jahren studierte er dessen Eigenschaften w\u00e4hrend des Trocknens und deren Einflu\u00df auf die Form der fertigen Skulptur. Er weiss, dass er nur im Dialog mit dem Material arbeiten und dem Holz nie eine Form aufzwingen kann. Diese zu erkennen und herauszuarbeiten empfindet er als befl\u00fcgelnde Herausforderung.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-column\">\n<p>Geschwungene R\u00e4nder und Ausbuchtungen entstehen durch die nat\u00fcrliche Ver-formung des Holzes. Ebenso wie \u00c4ste und Wachstumsun-regelm\u00e4\u00dfigkeiten, Risse und Bruchstellen, die er ganz bewusst repariert und kontrolliert, sind sie Teil der Gestaltung. Die dem Werkstoff innewohnende Ausdruckskraft, seine Zeichnung, Maserung und Farbigkeit, seine Weichheit oder H\u00e4rte, kompakte Schwere oder hauchd\u00fcnne Transparenz wird durch die Bearbeitung der Oberfl\u00e4che noch unterstrichen, etwa durch Wachsen und Polieren, Herausb\u00fcrsten der Adern oder Einschneiden feinster paralleler Rillen, oder durch Kontrastierung glatter, spiegelnder mit rauhen, und genarbten Fl\u00e4chen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-column\">\n<p>Doch nicht allein die Virtuosit\u00e4t des K\u00fcnstlers und das Material machen das Objekt zu dem was es ist, sondern die Kr\u00e4fte, die auf den Baum \u00fcber die Jahrhunderte hindurch gewirkt und dessen Wachstum beeinflusst haben. Ob als Solit\u00e4r oder im Verbund stehend, auf fruchtbarem oder magerem Boden wachsend, Wind, Wetter und \u00e4usseren Einfl\u00fcssen ausgesetzt &#8211; alle diese Faktoren pr\u00e4gen sich unausl\u00f6schlich ins \u201eGed\u00e4chtnis der Faser\u201c, und geben dem Gef\u00e4ss&nbsp;&nbsp;seine endg\u00fcltige Form. Es ist f\u00fcr Gamperl ganz selbstverst\u00e4ndlich einen jahrhundertealten Baum nicht einfach zu f\u00e4llen, sondern St\u00e4mme zu verwenden, die dem Windbruch nicht standhalten konnten oder aus irgendeinem anderen Grund gef\u00e4llt werden mussten.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-column\">\n<p>Auf dem Boden jedes Gef\u00e4sses befindet sich, neben der Signatur und der Nummer aus dem Werkverzeichnis, das Jahr seiner Entstehung, und ganz wichtig, das Alter des Baumes.&nbsp;Um mit dem Architekten Louis I. Khan zu enden \u2013 \u201eFrag das Holz was es sein m\u00f6chte\u201c \u2013 Ernst Gamperl hat die F\u00e4higkeit aus dem Holz hervorzulocken was es sein m\u00f6chte. Und das ist gro\u00dfartig.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-column\">\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-column-image undefined\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure
